Day 1

12:44 pm Local time 4:44am Pacific Time 7/8/09

We’ve just landed at Heathrow airport, and we have a couple of hours to kill before our connecting flight to Rome. The flight was smooth, they had little TVs in the seats where we could watch movies and listen to music (secret machine is pretty cool), etc. We watched Sunshine Cleaning, Monsters vs. Aliens, and I started to watch Taken, but we started to land about a quarter the way through that movie. We also watched this documentary on the Australian Rainforests. The best part of that was a segment on this bird, who builds this elaborate bachelor pad to lure females to mate with. Another male got jealous over the bachelor pad, and came in and tore it to shreds, and tried to make off with the prized blue things, because apparently the ladies like blue things, and perhaps the best part of it all was that the male does absolutely nothing in rearing the chicks he fathers. He just spends his entire life building bachelor pads, or destroying other bachelor pads. Hilarious!

One of the stewards on the plane, the one that helped us the most was named Giuseppi, and he was the classic ugly British guy, with a huge pointy nose, curly frizzy hair, sunken baggy eyes, and terribly teeth. It was fantastic! He was super nice and I just loved staring at him because he fit the stereotype so perfectly. Its like he walked right out of a Hollywood make-up studio or something.

The flight went from chasing the sunset, to chasing the sunrise. It never got dark on the plane, since we went up through Canada and over the Hudson Bay. At one point we were over Greenland. So we’ve had 22 hours of daylight so far. We had a short nap on the plane just to recharge ourselves enough to make it through the flight. But we’re both feeling pretty good right now. There isn’t any free internet at Heathrow, so by the time this goes up on the blog, we’ll probably be in Rome.

The best part of Heathrow so far though… at one of the shops in the terminal, Tiffany found a Cadbury crème egg twisted candy bar. I haven’t eaten it yet, but it looks like a Cadbury crème egg that was just made long. Stupid Brits are holding out on us!!! This should be sold year round in the colonies too!!

8:27 pm local time 11:28 am pacific

So we just got into out hotel, and the first thing that we did was take showers, and man did those showers feel good. The flight from London to Rome was pretty uneventful, but I think I understand why the Vatican is in Rome…. Everyone is constantly praying that they don’t die in traffic, so it has to be the religious capital of the world. Traffic here flows like water, lanes, stop signs, etc don’t seem to mean anything.

Our hotel room is small but very nice. I had my first bidet experience, and I’m not entirely sure if I did it right. We drove by the colosseum, and apparently in doing so we were pretty darn close to Michelle Obama. Maybe I’ll bump into her with Sasha and Milea getting gelato or something.

11:02pm local time

Tiff and I just got back, and we had some wonderfully delicious pizza, and some fantastic gelato. It really is way better than it is in the states. She had a dark chocolate one, and I had a tiramisu. Really tired now, so I’m going to cut this short, and upload pictures.

Sorry about the crummy picture layout... too tired to make it better.

  1. Hey there! I hope you and Tiffany have a blast. I'm so jealous. I wish I was vacationing in Europe right now. I can't wait to read more about your adventures and see more pictures. I hope that you will be in some of them. Get some of the locals to take your pic together.

    Ciao!
